What is your main role at your company?
I am an attorney in our mass torts section. This section focuses on defective pharmaceutical drugs and medical devices as well as faulty cosmetic devices.
What is your number one career accomplishment or highlight?
Currently, I am working on cases against manufacturers of hair relaxers. The hair relaxers were used predominately by black women, like myself, to straighten their hair due to pressure and societal demands. Black women thought these products were safe, however, these products have harmful chemicals which caused women to be diagnosed with uterine cancer, endometrial cancer, and ovarian cancer. I am blessed and proud to be able to fight for these women against manufacturers who put profits over people.
How are you involved in your community?
I am involved in numerous community organizations that focus on Community Service and leadership throughout the community. I am a member of the Mayor’s Young Professional Council. I am Vice President of the Black Women Lawyers Association of Alabama. I am also Vice President of the Alabama Lawyers Association. I am the secretary of the Capital City Bar Association. I am also a Board Member of the Montgomery County Bar Association where I serve as chair of the mentorship program.
I am also a board member of the Common Ground Ministry. I serve as the immediate Past President of the Montgomery County Bar Association- Women’s section. All of these organizations serve the community through community service and leadership and act as advocates for the advancement of our state and city.
What is your key to success?
My idea of the key to success is not being afraid to fail. This is something I am still working on. To be successful, sometimes you must take big leaps of faith without looking back. You need to understand that sometimes you will fail, but failure brings enlightenment and a promise to follow the path a different way. Even after failure, you must get up and try the road a different way.
